CD @ Spotify: How Spotify does Continuous Delivery with Docker and Helios
DevconTLV March Conference, Thursday, March 12, 2015, 09:55
Continuous Delivery at Spotify - how we do it? Today Spotify is the biggest music streaming service in the world. As you can imagine, we faced quite a few challenges in the past few years. Being able to quickly iterate, tweak, and continuously push changes to production was definitely one of them. And long before Docker has become a sensation we were experimenting with it and Helios (https://github.com/spotify/helios ) was born as a result. Helios is a Docker orchestration engine, making it easy to execute your Docker images on any amount of hosts, where they'll be monitored and restarted if needed.
In this session I'll walk you through some practical examples of using Helios, both locally with VirtualBox and in the cloud, with AWS. Helios discovery mechanisms will also be presented, using SkyDNS and Consul - making your services discoverable with a simple DNS SRV query.
Evgeny Goldin is software engineer with Spotify in a Continuous Delivery team, taking care of company's backend services as they're continuously pushed through the CD pipeline: from commit to build and production.
